North Chailey (The Heart of Sussex)

Self Catering Apartments

Chailey Common is one of the largest heath land commons in the south of England and a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its heath lands, insects, wildlife and bird communities.

Sheffield Park Gardens – landscaped by Capability Brown and home to the first England v Australia cricket match- is only a couple of miles away.  This is a beautiful place to pass the time and unwind.  Wakehurst Place is also very near by.

You can hire a bike or, if you are brave, a tandem at Seven Sisters Country Park or you can see the animals at Drusilla’s Zoo. We are also only 25 mins from the Opera House at Glyndebourne.  Brighton with its fantastic Pavilion built by the Prince Regent is 25 mins away and the historic town of Lewes, 15 mins away.

For the guests interested in horses, Hickstead is very close by and Plumpton , Brighton, Fontwell and Goodwood Racecourses are not so far away. Goodwood, too, has its Revival weekend and Motor Racing days which brings me to Bentley Wildfowl and Wetlands where there too is a fantastic Car Museum.

Blue Bell Railway is about 4 miles away and is a wonderful day out for the family  and rail enthusiasts alike.  It’s well worth a visit.

Infact there is so much here in Sussex by the Sea that you will need to come back.

 FAWN FARM COTTAGES

Fawn Farm Cottages has two Holiday Cottages which are conversions from a Calf House and Bull Pens, hence the names Calf Pen and Bull Pen

The Calf Pen is the larger of the two properties.  Both the properties lie on one floor, the ground floor and are therefore also suitable for wheel chair access.

We welcome pets and have regularly had Dogs visit.  We have also, rather surprisingly, had Cats to stay but so far nothing more exotic.  We would consider anything, so do ask.

Included with both are Bed Linen, Towels and Tea Towels. Fuel and power are also with in the cost.

We have two rescued Dutch Rabbits who have a rather grand pen.  They are tame but unfortunately do not like strangers.  Guests are welcome to sit and watch them as they amble round their enclosure.

We also have two pet sheep, Skippy &Lucy and a lovely horse called Twiggy.  When we have Orphan lambs guests are welcome to help bottle feed them.

We have a vegetable garden and if produce is abundant we often find ourselves giving veg/salad away to guests.

Communal Playground

There is a fantastic Play Ground where younger/smaller guests can spend some energy, along with a trampoline.  Adults must accompany children at all times when they are using this apparatus.

We run Fawn Farm as a small farming concern predominately selling hay and running a Livery Yard  (We have 3 horses in livery) and we hope to build up our sheep flock to include, in the next couple of years, productive sheep.  At the time of writing this web page we have  2 bottle lambs, Harry Smith and Finlaly Brookbank, (Don’t ask why these names, our youngest named them)

We have two lovely cats (Oddball and Dipstick) a fantastic German Shepherd who will play ball all day with anyone who has the time.  He is called Rommel.

The Calf Pen

There are two bedrooms (one Twin and one Double), the Double Bedroom boasting a Four Poster Bed, a Dining Living room, A bathroom with an over the bath shower and a fully equipped kitchen.  Laminate flooring in the bedrooms and living area, tiled under floor heating in the bathroom and kitchen.

There is a high chair and a travel cot.  Electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, freezer and fridge.  There is also a private enclosure with picnic table and parking for 2 vehicles.

There is also a Sofa Bed in the Dining/Living room so the property can sleep up to 6 plus a baby but 4 is the ideal no.

The Calf Pen can be booked along with The Bull Pen if there is a large no of you.  Potentially then we can take up to 10 but 7 would be more comfortable.

The Bull Pen

Although the smaller of the two properties, in our opinion, it is the most appealing.  It has its own small courtyard which is pretty, private, a sun trap and a wind break.

There is a double bedroom, a bathroom, and a dining/living/kitchenette area.
